Gli abrasivi sicuri devono essere in grado di resistere alle forze e ai carichi che si possono prevedere sia nelle normali condizioni d’impiego che in caso di uso improprio. La resistenza alla deformazione e allo scoppio dipende da vari fattori quali il materiale, la geometria, il tipo e la durata delle sollecitazioni e le condizioni ambientali.

La norma EN 12413 richiede che i dischi abrasivi da taglio e sbavo abbiano una sufficiente capacità di resistenza alla flessione e agli urti, determinata dalla prova di carico laterale e dalla prova d’urto. Oltre a un fattore di resistenza alla forza centrifuga, verificata con la prova di scoppio (test distruttivo).

La prova di carico laterale viene eseguita sia su dischi da taglio che su mole da sbavo. Il disco abrasivo viene sollecitato a pressione con un opportuno carico laterale, mentre ruota alla massima velocità operativa. Se le mole raggiungono il valore richiesto senza rompersi, la verifica del carico laterale a punto singolo è considerata come fornita. Le mole utilizzate per la prova devono essere distrutte.

Nella prova d’urto si determina invece la resistenza a un carico d’impatto laterale, simile ad uno shock. La mola da sottoporre a prova viene fissata su un mandrino rotante mediante flange e quindi accelerata fino alla sua velocità massima di funzionamento. La mola rotante viene quindi caricata lateralmente con uno o più urti successivi, fino alla rottura. La verifica della capacità di lavoro è considerata come fornita se nessun danno è visibile ad occhio nudo al valore richiesto.

SAFETY TESTS FOR oSa-CERTIFIED IMA ABRASIVE WHEELS

Tests for the safety of oSa-certified IMA Abrasives grinding wheels are carried out by industry experts.

To be oSa certified, our products must pass conformity and safety tests.
Safe abrasives must be able to withstand the forces and loads that can be expected in both normal conditions of use and in the event of misuse. Resistance to deformation and bursting depends on various factors such as material, geometry, type and duration of stress and environmental conditions.

EN 12413 regulation requires abrasive cutting and grinding discs to have sufficient resistance to bending and impact, as determined by the side load test and the impact test. In addition, they should be able to resist to centrifugal force, verified by the bursting test (destructive test). The single-point side-load test is performed on both cutting discs and grinding wheels. The grinding disc rotates at maximum operating speed. If the grinding discs reach the required value without breaking, it means that they have passed the test. The grinding wheels used for the test must be destroyed.
In the impact test, on the other hand, the resistance to a side impact load, similar to a shock, is determined. The wheel to be tested is fixed on a rotating spindle by means of flanges and then accelerated to its maximum operating speed. The rotating grinding wheel is then side-loaded with one or more successive impacts, until it breaks.
